The Rehearsal

Most couples opt in to have a rehearsal the day or so before the actual wedding day. This is when couples fine tune the order of the processional, when to time the music, when to enter, where to stand, and so much more. It is also very common for couples to ask vendors to come. For some vendors such as the planner, DJ, photographer, or videographer it would be highly beneficial for the vendors and the couple to see just exactly how to the day will play out. Each vendor has benefits for joining you on your rehearsal but we’ll deep dive into why your photographer (and videographer!) should tag along.

Not going in blind!

Seeing the venue or ceremony location around the same time of day as the actual event can help us figure out our settings or from where we want to shoot. We need to know if the sunset is hitting the stained glass a certain way causing glare. Or, if there is a structure or obstacle limiting our movement. All this can help us anticipate the proper areas and angles to shoot in.

Extra Preparedness!

I think I speak for most photographers, but we tend to be planners and we like to know what we’re getting into ahead of time. If I’ve never been to a location, I will usually scout a venue beforehand if I am able to. But seeing it all come together with you and getting a feel for the vibe you want can help get my creative ideas flowing! I can think of what poses I’d want to use for specific areas.

We can give advice!

Story time: I shot a wedding where I was not present for the rehearsal. On the day of, during the ceremony, the wedding party had spaced themselves out so much that most members were hidden behind the guests, who were all standing. Had I been at the rehearsal, I would have made the wedding party aware to stand closer together. I'm able to offer advice in order to capture every aspect of the day.

Extra Memories

All the extra material that I (or videographer!) will capture, can be added to your wedding album. The Rehearsal is usually an extra day for couples to mingle intimately with close friends and family before the big day. If you’re having a party or dinner afterwards, have us tag along for a bit to document some special candid moments, speeches, or traditions between everyone. Having extra moments caught on camera is never a wrong idea and always welcomed.
